The word Empathy is defined as, "the ability to understand and share the feelings of another" and is directly associated with high or low self-esteem (personal worthiness).
Being Empathic is a rare human condition and, as this world accelerates ever faster toward technology over people, is becoming ever rarer!
Studies reveal 20-somethings born since 1990 ~ Millenials ~ live for Hi-Tech over High-Touch! They remain in-doors up to 99% of their waking hours and may suffer from 'Nature Deficit Disorder'.
Today, there are greater levels of anxiety in our Colleges and Universities than ever before as more students with more qualifications haven't got a clue what to do! And, 'Tomorrows Parents' may inadvertently raise their posterity to become even less Empathic!
Those with Low Empathy suffer more mood swings. Those with Low Empathy pointlessly argue. Those with Low Empathy lose patience with others faster and more frequently. Those with Low Empathy perform poorly working with and through others. They hold themselves back. They feel inferior. They blame others for their own shortcomings.
We witness this in the workplace; we witness this in politics; we witness this in poor customer service and witness this by the increase in the number of Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs) issued by the Courts.
Is There Hope, You May Ask?
Being Empathic is not a given at birth; it is learned, it is practiced, it is honed! Sometimes some people improve as years pass-by and they are often heard to say, "If only I knew then what I know now?"
Those who express Empathy have a higher inter-personal success rate with others. Those who express Empathy move towards a greater number of mutually beneficial outcomes with fewer people encounters. Those who express Empathy generate a feeling of Empathy in others, towards them; "I like me best when I'm with you". Greater productivity is drawn from others because they want to perform better.
People with Empathy who sell as a career, are inevitably within the top quartile of producers. People with Empathy who manage as a career, develop highly productive teams. Organizations with Empathy attract highly motivated people for a given role.
People and businesses with Empathy are at peace with themselves. They easily relax. Their personal relationships are more spontaneous and appealing.
