Ralph Waldo Emmerson (1803-1882) noted, "What you do speaks so loudly, I can't hear what you're saying”
Have you noticed how you can't stop yourself judging strangers! How they dress; their body language; how they greet you. As they enter your presence, you 'feel' you can trust them, or you can't. Then, they opened their mouth and confirm or change your first impression!
Whether you do or don't agree with the headline sentiment, you've probably heard the expression "Everybody sells", which simply means to persuade someone of the merits of something and everyone has attempted that.
But, without accommodating THE dominant inter-personal ingredient an opportunity to persuade anyone to do anything is dramatically reduced, and this can be very, very expensive in relationship terms, especially in the workplace.
That ingredient is'Personality'
- If you are perceived as a COOL/TELLER > 90% of people do not behave the way you do!
- If you are perceived as a COOL/ASKER > 80% of people do not behave the way you do!
- If you are perceived as a WARM/TELLER > 70% of people do not behave the way you do!
- If you are perceived as a WARM/ASKER > 60% of people do not behave the way you do!
